Failures

Should 1000 people across the globe spend money, time and efforts to obtain the same negative result? If a given scientist knows that an exactly similar effort has not yielded result, he will be prevented from many kinds of losses. His productive thoughts can be diverted in another fresh direction.

Many will not reveal the R&D data. Many will not accept their failure. May be this column is for a human with neutral thinking to help another person not to repeat a mistake by trying exactly same formula and procedure.

If in case this column is not of use to scientist of very high profile, I am sure that it will be of use to small enterpreuners at least.

My own experience:

The ground water of my flat has iron content. I evaluated the existing products for water refinement. Each had it’s own plus and minus. I decided to try an idea on my own.
I spent almost no money and only few minutes per day to give shape to that idea. The results were sent to the lab and we obtained positive results. The same is now being planned for production.
This is a story on success. Here are the details about a project that failed.

I mounted the water filter candles inside a rectangular plastic water tank. The filtered water was collected by a tray below the tank and supplied to the flats. The filtering time was matching our feeding requirement. We also automated the pumping process. But after a month, the external moisture blocked the candles as the tank started framing the green pasi. We tried to clean it regularly. We even tried the chemical cleaing.

It costed me one month time and an expense of Rs.25, 000/-. The end result is not satisfactory.
Some junior scientists saw the unit and went with a positive sign probably with a parallel idea.
